Georgia Hunting Season Dates

Great news for folks who want to hunt North Georgia! Here are the "proposed big game hunting season dates. and bag limits" Official dates will be announced around August 1, 2009. Check back for updates.

Black Bear - Northern Zone
Archery: Sept. 12 - Oct. 9, 2009
Primitive Weapons - Oct. 10-16, 2009
Firearms: Oct. 17-Dec. 6, 2009
Bag limit is one (1) per season, statewide
No dogs allowed. Still hunts, spot and stalk available.

Deer
Archery, Either sex - Sept. 12 - Oct. 9, 2009 Statewide - 12 per season, statewide.

Primitive Weapons - either sex - Oct. 10-16, 2009 - Firearms deer hunting is not allowed in Clayton, Cobb, DeKalb, Fulton (north of GA Hwy. 92), and that portion of Glynn county lying within Jekyll Island. In the portion of Forsythe county south of GA Hwy. 20, only shotguns and muzzleloaders may be used (no other firearms allowed). In Hancock, Harris, Meriwether, Montgomery, Randolph, Talbot and Troup Counties, only antlered bucks with at least 4 points on either side are legal. In Dooly and Macon Counties, antlered bucks must have a minimum 15 inch outside spread.

Turkey -
Statewide - March 20, May 15, 2010 - 3 gobblers per season

Wild hogs
are open year round on private land, but may be hunted during any open season with the weapon that is currently allowed for that season's animals.

A 15-year old Valdosta, Georgia boy took a state record black bear in October. Ed Gliddens, a student at Lowndes High School, shot a 574-pound black during the bear season.

We do not offer spring bear hunting and our bears are not color phase.
We do not provide hunting licenses as it is all free range, fair chase hunting the old fashioned way. Georgia requires individual identification. License fees vary. Please click on the License Information link for more information.
 

Wild Turkey Hunts (Wild turkey is considered a big game animal) $300.00/day/person. Group rate for wild turkey, minimum 3 adult hunters - $275.00/day/person.

Swallow Creek WMA (19,000 acres) Hunt  (2009 dates will be announced spring, 2009)

The Georgia Dept. of Natural Resources will hold a five day firearms hunt on the Swallow Creek Wildlife Management area, Dec. 10 thru Dec. 14, 2008. Deer, bear and hogs are the legal game. Buck only with either sex the last two days. Hunter check-in is required prior to hunting and check-out of harvested game is required on date of kill. Deer limit is two. Statewide limit applies on bear and not limit on hogs. For more information on hunting you can contact the Gainesville Game Management office at 770-535- 5700.

A permit is required to legally hunt deer with dogs in the 41 counties where this opportunity is allowed during the open season in addition to a $5 deer-dog hunting license.
